When this happens
You press Record and nothing asks for the microphone or which screen to share, or the recording widget never appears.
Usually your browser was told "no" once, or the prompt was interrupted, and your computer is still blocking it. It is easy to fix, and nothing you did caused it.
If your browser has blocked the microphone, Sylva shows a panel like this, with a Try again button and a How to fix this link to this page.

Press Try again once you have changed a setting below.

The How to fix this link on the panel opens this page.

Fix it on an Android phone
Sylva on your home screen runs inside Chrome, so the microphone setting that counts is Chrome's. It does not appear in the Sylva app's own settings, which is why you may find no microphone option there.
- Open the Chrome app (not Sylva). Tap the three dots, then Settings, then Site settings, then Microphone.
- Tap app.mysylva.app and set Microphone to Allow. If it already says Allowed, tap Delete & reset instead. An old permission can look right and still not work.
- Open your phone's Settings, then Apps, then Chrome, then Permissions, then Microphone. Choose Allow only while using the app.
- Swipe Sylva away to close it, then open it again and tap Try again. Your phone asks for the microphone again. Tap Allow.
Fix it on an iPhone
- Tap Try again. When your iPhone asks to use the microphone, tap Allow.
- If you tapped Don't Allow, swipe Sylva away to close it, open it again, and tap Try again. Your iPhone asks again.
- Using Sylva in Safari? Tap the aA button next to the address, tap Website Settings, and set Microphone to Allow.
- Still blocked? Open Settings, then Safari, then Microphone (on newer iPhones: Settings, then Apps, then Safari, then Microphone). Choose Ask or Allow.
Fix it on a Mac
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone.
- Turn the switch off next to your browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Arc or Firefox). If your Mac asks, quit and reopen the browser.
- Go back to the same place and turn the switch on again. If your Mac asks, quit and reopen the browser again.
- If you record the meeting's sound too, do the same under Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording on older versions of macOS).
- Open Sylva and press Record. Your browser now asks again. Allow the microphone, pick the screen or window to share, and turn on Share audio.
Also check your browser's own setting
- Click the icon at the left of the address bar (a lock or sliders icon).
- Open Site settings.
- Set Microphone to Allow.
- If the browser offers to reload the page, reload it.
Fix it on Windows
- Open Settings, then Privacy & security, then Microphone.
- Make sure microphone access is on, and that your browser is allowed to use it.
- Open Sylva and press Record. Allow the microphone when your browser asks.
Still stuck?
- Close other apps that might be using the microphone, such as a video call, then try again.
- Quit and reopen your browser, then press Record again.
- Your meeting is saved even when a recording doesn't start. Nothing is lost.
