Trash

Deleted threads and chat messages go to Trash for 30 days, so you can restore one you deleted by mistake.

When you delete a thread or a chat message, it goes to Trash instead of disappearing right away. Things stay in Trash for 30 days, then they are deleted for good. Nothing in Trash shows up in your threads, in search, in Ask Sylva or in your briefings.

Delete a message

  1. Hover over the message and click the trash icon.
  2. Sylva asks Move to Trash? Click Move to Trash to confirm, or Cancel to keep the message.
  3. The message leaves the thread. If you change your mind straight away, click Undo in the notice at the bottom of the screen.

Delete a thread

  1. In the sidebar, open the thread's menu and click Delete.
  2. Sylva asks Move thread to Trash? and shows the thread's name. Click Move to Trash to confirm, or Cancel to keep it.
  3. The thread and all its messages leave the sidebar. Click Undo in the notice to bring them straight back.

You can't delete your Main Thread.

Open Trash

Click Trash near the bottom of the sidebar, just above Notifications. On a phone, open the menu first.

At the top of the page, a notice reminds you that things in the trash stay for 30 days. A deleted thread shows its name, how many messages it holds and the day you deleted it. A deleted message shows the thread it came from, who wrote it (you or Sylva) and the day you deleted it. The most recently deleted is first.

Restore a thread or a message

Click Restore under it. A thread comes back to the sidebar with all the messages that went to Trash with it. A message goes back into its thread, in the same place it was before.

Messages you deleted one by one before you deleted their thread stay in Trash when the thread comes back. You can restore them separately.

Delete for good

Click Delete forever under the thread or message, then click Delete forever again to confirm. Deleting a thread for good deletes all its messages and the files attached in it. Meetings linked to the thread are kept; they are just no longer linked. This can't be undone.

You don't need to empty Trash. Sylva removes each thread and message automatically 30 days after you deleted it.

What Trash doesn't cover

Trash holds threads and chat messages only. Deleting a note or a task still deletes it straight away, and deleting your account removes everything immediately (see Security and privacy).
